Daily Misadventures, Plants

Lord of the Plants

I confess. Plants have slowly taken over my life and living room. I started with three. The same three plants I’ve had for nearly 3 years now. Those three plants suddenly became eleven. Even more quickly, those eleven became over twenty. My roommate never said a word. Even with plants now taking over the balcony and living room, herbs, strawberries, tomatoes, peppers, flowers…the balcony has become much smaller. Then there is the living room. You see, I thought that slowly incorporating plants two or three at a time would be innocuous enough. I apparently could have moved them all in at once and the roommate still would not have said a word.

The plants, much to my delight, are flourishing despite the low-light conditions of their existence. The pink begonia and kalanchoe continue to bloom. The herbs are filling out their pots and the strawberries are setting fruit. Yet. There is one plant that appears determined to outgrow every other plant in it’s vicinity. Behold, the mighty tradescantia, Lord of the Plants, Fastest Growing Foliage, Ruler of the Purple Pot, and Overthrower of Desktop Space.

Two weeks ago, it was tiny. But now it seems determine to grow so fast that in a few months’ time it will not only be Ruler of the Purple Pot, but Ruler of the Kingdom of the Desk and Lord of All Houseplants of the Shady Apartment. Long live the King.
