As you know, I’ve been working on this crocheted blanket for quite some time now. It is a project that I am actually quite excited to complete. There has been, however, another small roadblock to me finishing the blanket. My sister called and asked me to virtually do a quilt along with her. Of course, with needing to finish the blanket and work on other projects I have already started, I said absolutely I will quilt with you.
Here is the first sneak peek at the quilt:

As you can see down in the corner of the graph, there will actually be pinwheels in all of the open spaces, but they take too long to draw. The colored pencils aren’t entirely indicative of the colors I’m using, but they stand in to give me an idea of how the basic color fade will look. It took me longer than I care to admit to get all the colors right, which is why I decided to skip adding all the pinwheels and just get to quilting.
The first step in this project was digging through my stash and picking fabric.

The next step was cutting out the strips I needed to make the double Irish chain blocks. For my quilt, I did 2 1/2 inch strips for finished 2 inch blocks.

The next steps after that involved a little bit of cutting the strips to proper sizes and sewing them together. I used the strip piecing method as much as I could, but with so many different colors it was limited.

Since starting the project, I have finished all of the chain blocks, and now I just need to focus on the pinwheels.

Pinwheels can be a very finicky type of quilt block to sew, and as such it may take a little longer to complete all 21 of them, but here’s to making properly sized pinwheel blocks, with a final photo of the one that is the right style, but not the right size, because math is hard. Happy crafting, everyone!

Love it and you.
